DJ Mustard Puts Boi-1da’s DMs On Blast
When regional pride meets producer shade, DJ Mustard and Boi-1da spark a fiery debate over the dominance of West Coast rap.

In a move straight out of the hip-hop petty playbook, DJ Mustard shared an eyebrow-raising Instagram DM exchange with fellow producer Boi-1da after Mustard's co-produced track "Not Like Us" hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Kendrick Lamar's West Coast anthem is having a moment, but not everyone is vibing with it — namely, Boi-1da.
Mustard first posted a celebratory story highlighting the song’s chart-topping success. Boi-1da slid into the DMs to acknowledge the track’s production value, saying, "Good sh*t. Beat hard AF." But things quickly took a left turn when he added, "Nobody outside LA wanna hear that s**t. West Coast rap is ass."
Mustard didn’t back down, replying, "You have to hear it outside," a low-key defense of LA's sound. Of course, the entire exchange made its way onto Mustard’s Instagram Story, soundtracked by Kendrick’s “Euphoria,” because what’s a little drama without a killer score?
The DMs add another layer to the simmering tension between regional rap styles and have fans debating Boi-1da's harsh critique. With Kendrick’s track dominating summer playlists and sparking conversations, the only thing hotter than the charts is the drama behind them.
Who’s really got the last word? Probably Kendrick, whose tracks — and the drama they spawn — continue to define the culture
