Fired Watchdog’s Shocking Email
Friday Night, Career Cut Short

Mark Greenblatt, former inspector general of the Department of the Interior, described how he learned of his sudden termination in an interview with CNN. "Friday night, I got an email on my work phone," he recalled. "It said 'White House notification,' and I knew that can’t be good." The brief, two-sentence email cited “changing priorities” as the reason for his immediate dismissal. Greenblatt wasn’t alone—inspectors general from multiple agencies, including the Defense, State, and Energy Departments, were also ousted late Friday.
The sweeping firings echoed past "Friday-night massacres" under Trump’s first administration. Greenblatt, who had served for over five years, has been locked out of his email and remains unsure when he’ll be able to retrieve his belongings. The reason behind the mass firings remains unclear. Greenblatt, along with the other dismissed watchdogs, received nearly identical messages citing "changing priorities" as the only explanation. “We’re still sifting through the rubble,” he said, as questions swirl around the sudden and coordinated removals.
