iPhone Finally Gets RCS Messaging – Here’s How to Enable It

Bridge the Green Bubble Gap with Android Users Using These Simple Settings

Apple’s iOS 18 update quietly introduced RCS (Rich Communication Services) support to iPhones, finally improving cross-platform messaging between iOS and Android devices. With RCS enabled, iPhone users can now enjoy typing indicators, read receipts, and higher-quality media sharing when texting Android contacts—though the infamous green bubbles remain.

While major US carriers like Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile already support the feature, Apple is reportedly expanding compatibility to more providers soon. To check if your carrier supports RCS, head to Settings > General > About > Carrier—if you see "Voice, SMS & RCS," you’re good to go. Enabling it is just as easy: navigate to Settings > Messages > RCS Messaging and toggle it on.

However, unlike iMessage, RCS lacks end-to-end encryption between iPhones and Androids, leaving texts potentially vulnerable. Security agencies even warn against cross-platform messaging due to an ongoing cyberattack targeting telecom networks. While RCS won’t fully close the iPhone-Android divide, it’s a step toward smoother communication—just don’t expect blue bubbles anytime soon. For maximum security, experts still recommend encrypted apps like Signal or WhatsApp when messaging across ecosystems. Ready to ditch the SMS Stone Age? Flip the switch and text smarter.
