Jamie Dimon Says “No Emails in Meetings”

JPMorgan Chase CEO calls out the habit as rude, urges focus, clarity, and a little fun at work.

In his latest annual shareholder letter, JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon laid down a firm line: no more checking emails during meetings. Calling it “disrespectful” and a waste of time, Dimon urged employees to give full attention to discussions, saying, “Make meetings count.” He didn’t stop there. Dimon dished out more straight-talking workplace wisdom—skip the jargon, don’t reread the same email three times, and most importantly, take care of yourself. “If you don’t take care of yourself, it doesn’t work,” he wrote, adding that making work fun and fulfilling should be a priority too. Dimon also took a swipe at Trump’s global tariffs, warning they could damage the economy long-term if not resolved soon. While slightly easing up on remote work criticism, the CEO maintained that company culture—not individual preference—should guide workplace policies.
