LinkedIn Adds Email Metrics to Newsletters—But Is It Enough?
New Update Gives Publishers Email Open Rates and Sends, But Gaps Remain

LinkedIn has finally rolled out email analytics for newsletters, offering data on how many subscribers receive and open email alerts. While a long-overdue update, it helps publishers understand engagement beyond LinkedIn’s in-app notifications. The new metrics—Email Sends and Email Open Rate—offer estimates on audience interaction, though LinkedIn admits they "may not be precise."
This update answers a long-standing question: how many readers rely on email versus LinkedIn itself to access newsletters? With this data, businesses and marketers can better assess LinkedIn’s effectiveness compared to dedicated newsletter platforms. Advertisers also gain insight into whether sponsored content reaches inboxes.
Despite the progress, LinkedIn still doesn't share subscriber email addresses with authors, limiting external marketing opportunities. Calls for an opt-in system allowing users to share their emails have gone unanswered. While this update is a step in the right direction, there’s still more to be done.
