My Big Dumb Webmail Client

Sometimes, the best way to fix a problem is to build your own. Even if it’s a bad idea.

The internet keeps throwing AI at me like an overenthusiastic salesman who won’t take no for an answer. Case in point: Gmail’s new Gemini logo in Android, a glaring reminder that I’m stuck with features I never asked for. I tried other email clients, hoping for relief, but they all had the same AI-infested problem. So, in a moment of defiance (or madness), I decided to build my own webmail client—stripped-down, single-column, and blissfully AI-free.
This little project, slapped together with React and Tailwind, is more about learning than launching a serious Gmail killer. Right now, it can log into multiple Gmail accounts, read emails inline, support light and dark modes, and even work offline. It’s far from perfect—it doesn’t even send emails yet—but I’ve built something functional. Will it ever see the light of day? Maybe. But for now, it’s a reminder that sometimes, instead of getting mad at tech, you can just make your own.
