NFL Insider Shuts Down Drake SB Claim: Bloomberg Newsletter
Mal says Drake rejected halftime show, but NFL disputes it.
Drake’s second largest fan is facing scrutiny after he, Jamil “Mal” Clay claimed on his podcast that the rapper has repeatedly turned down offers to headline the Super Bowl halftime show. Swaying side to side as he spoke, Mal stated, "Drake has been offered this Super Bowl show for some years now and has turned it down. Probably four years."
However, an unnamed NFL insider quickly shut down the rumor, calling it a “blatant lie” in an email newsletter. According to the source, since Roc Nation took over halftime show production in 2019, Drake has never received an official invite.
Mal’s comments came after Kendrick Lamar was announced as the Super Bowl LIX halftime performer Sunday, sparking conversation on who else should be the first hip hop artist to perform at the event hosted in New Orleans. Fans and Artist alike have been debating about why Lil Wayne wasn’t selected to headline the halftime show sponsored by Apple Music, especially with the event being hosted in Wayne’s birthplace, New Orleans. Many alluded to the idea that this is Kendrick’s year following his rap battle success over Drake, who was signed Wayan’s record label in 2009.
While the debate continues on, one thing is clear: Kendrick’s Super Bowl announcement only adds fuel to the rivalry between the artists in which he stated: There’s no round twos.
